Let me introduce you to one of my favourite gut flora-loving food (ie pre-biotic) food and what I call nature's 'Gaviscon' (ie anti-acid).

This is how cool it works - God I love nature:

When mixed with water, the powder turns into a gel like consistency (medical term is mucilage) which activates its soothing properties. It essentially coats and provides a soothing protective barrier for the entire digestive system from mouth to, well the other end - this is why I recommend powder rather than capsule. The mucilage from the inner bark of this tree, has many uses

- soothes heartburn (natures Gaviscon)

- acts a prebiotic fibre for gut flora to thrive on

- can be used topically to soothe any skin irritations, wounds, ulcers and dry skin.

  • Add 1 teaspoon to a small amount of warm water in a glass and mix into a paste. Then top the glass with water, mix thoroughly and drink. Can also add to smoothies. As it originally comes from a bark, it's earthy in flavour, so I recommend adding 1/2 teaspoon of honey.

  • 100% Slippery Elm Bark Powder (Ulmus rubra).

Made from the dried and ground inner bark of the Elm tree.
